HIGH POINT, N.C. – Campbell's men's team finished runner-up and
Sabina Allen was named Most Outstanding Women's Field Performer at the 2018 Big South Track and Field Championships.
Campbell's men took second in the team standings for the second straight season, totaling 159.5 points, trailing only Liberty's 251.5. The Flames also took the women's title with 289 points, while Campbell's women's team finished fourth at 100 points.
Allen was named most outstanding outdoor field performer for the third consecutive year, adding a conference title in the triple jump on Friday, her third straight, with a meet record 13.18 meter mark. Also claiming the Big South long jump title on Wednesday, the senior tacked on all-conference honors in the 100 meters as well, finishing third with a personal best 11.87.
In all, Camels claimed all-conference honors in 24 event combined, with 15 on the men's side and nine in women's competition. CU men took home five conference titles, while Allen took both individual championships for the Camel women.
On the third and final day of competition,
Amon Kemboi took the Big South men's 5000 meters championship with a facility record 14:06.81, while
Lawrence Kipkoech finished second with a time of 14:07.54.
Kemboi also took top honors in the 1500 meters with a school, Big South, meet and facility record 3:39.72.
In the men's 800 meters,
Kelvin Kirui claimed the title with a season-best 1:51.44.
Khai McLin also took the men's 100 meters title with a facility record performance, posting a time of 10.41. McLin also finished runner-up in the 200 meters with a 21.02 mark.
McLin was part of the men's 4x400 meter relay team as well, along with
Trevon Compito,
Collin Cooper and
Ka'Deem Wynn, taking second with a season best 3:14.96.
In the men's triple jump,
Darius Prescott and
Noah Tyson finished second and third, with Prescott turning in a season best 14.72 meter leap, and Tyson posting a 14.60 meter mark.
Chase Edwards claimed third in the men's high jump with a PR 1.93 meters, while
Andrew Ward took his second podium of the week, also finishing third in the discus on Wednesday, taking third with a personal best 52.53 meters in the hammer throw.
Shenelle McKay picked up a third medal in the 2018 outdoor championships on Friday, earning second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.86 meters.
In the women's 5000 meters
Joan Maritim collected a second medal with a time of 17:11.21, finishing third.
Roshae Jackson also claimed third in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:39.98, wrapping up Campbell's podium finishes on Friday.
Additionally, Jackson and
Collin Cooper were named to the Big South's All-Academic teams.
The NCAA East Regionals begin on May 24 in Tampa, Fla.
