TAMPA, FLA. –
Amon Kemboi won the men's 5000 meters Saturday at the East Preliminaries, qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
Kemboi posted a time of 13:54.89 to claim the region title, beating out Alabama's Vincent Kiprop (13:55.35), who edged Campbell's
Lawrence Kipkoech for the top spot in Thursday's 10k.
Kipkoech also punched a ticket to Eugene in the 5k, registering a time of 14:10.02 for 10
th. Kipkoech also qualified for the 10000 meters.
Kemboi is the third Camel in the last three years to win a NCAA regional event.
Amon Terer won the 10k in 2016, also topping the 5k in 2017.
A third Camel also qualified for the NCAA Championships on Saturday, with
Sabina Allen taking fourth in the women's triple jump with a 13.18 meter mark.
The 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships will run June 6-9 at Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
