BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Following Campbell's road win at Georgetown, three Camels have earned Big South Player of the Week honors.
Damien Dozier has been named defensive,
Colin Gary was tabbed special teams and
Caleb Snead tallied conference freshman of the week accolades.
Dozier helped keep Georgetown out of the end zone, posting 2.0 tackles for loss, including 1.0 sack in Campbell's 13-8 win at Georgetown. Dozier also forced a fumble and registered a hurry in the road win. His strip sack on Georgetown's final possession of the day secured the Campbell win, clinging to its 13-8 lead. With the Hoyas driving to midfield, Dozier strip-sacked Georgetown QB Gunther Johnson and
Terence Harper recovered, giving Campbell the ball with 1:34 to go and allowing the Camels to run out the play clock for the win. He totaled four tackles for the day.
Gary was also instrumental in the win, knocking down two field goals. The redshirt junior gave Campbell the first points of the game late in the first quarter, chipping in a 22-yarder. With the Camels up 10-6, the redshirt junior buried a career-long 37-yard field goal through wet conditions, giving Campbell a critical seven point lead with 7:06 remaining in the game. Gary also converted his only extra point attempt, and kicked off five times for a 58.2 yard average.
Snead, a redshirt freshman wide receiver, posted 98 yards on three catches, including a 70-yard TD reception for CU at Georgetown. Through two games, the rookie owns 155 yards receiving on five catches with two touchdowns. Snead's 155 receiving yards are the most by a Camel through their first two career games, and the third most by a Camel to start a season behind
Aaron Blockmon's 2016 (281 yards) and 2017 (175 yards). His 70-yard TD catch gave Campbell a 10-6 lead with 6:16 on the clock in the third quarter.
Campbell forced three Georgetown turnovers in the win, marking Campbell's first in its modern era (since 2008) over a Division I nonconference opponent. Campbell was previously 0-16 vs. Division I nonconference foes. The victory was the program's fourth nonconference road win overall.
In the program's 11th year, Campbell's 2-0 start is its third overall, all coming over the last four seasons (2015, 2016, 2018).
Through just two weeks, Campbell has taken four Big South Player of the Week honors, including
Daniel Smith's offensive player of the week merit after week one.
Originally scheduled to travel to Coastal Carolina on Saturday, Campbell will now
host the Chanticleers on Wednesday afternoon, September 12 in Buies Creek. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Barker-Lane Stadium.
