BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell continues a stretch of four road contests in five dates Saturday in a 5:30 p.m. tip at Charleston Southern.
The Camels (9-8, 2-1) are coming off a 70-53 win Wednesday at UNC Asheville where the Camels finished with a 30-4 edge in points off turnovers and had 21 assists on 25 buckets.
Chris Clemons scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in the 2nd half and
Andrew Eudy added his 3rd double-double (14 points, 12 rebounds) in the last 5 games. All 9 Camels who played scored and CU finished with only 7 turnovers.
CSU (7-9, 1-2) is coming off a 101-91 win last Saturday at Longwood as 5 Bucs scored in double figures. Phlandrous Fleming scored a season-high 25 points, while Christian Keeling added 22, plus 11 boards.
- Charleston Southern stands 2nd in the nation in turnovers forced (20.44 per game), is 4th in turnover margin (+5.7) and offensive rebounds (15.0), while ranking 12th in steals (9.3).
- In Big South games, the Camels lead the league in turnover margin (+8.0), assist-turnover ratio (2.7) and free throw percentage (.864). CU has committed and average of just 6.7 turnovers through 3 BSC contests.
- Chris Clemons now stands 20th on the NCAA Division I all-time scoring list with 2,728 points in 114 career outings. He leads the nation in scoring (29.2 ppg) and has extended his double-figure scoring streak to 99 games, the longest among all active players and 4th-best in D1 history. He is 2nd in the country in 3-pointers per game (3.94) and 11th in free throws made (107).
- A Jan. 24 date with Presbyterian is CU's lone remaining home contest this month. CU plays at Hampton (Jan. 26) and Radford (Jan. 30).
- The CSU Field House holds the distinction of being the 2nd-smallest capacity (881) home court in the Division I ranks (USC Upstate's Hodge Center seats 837). Campbell's old venue -- Carter Gym -- was the country's smallest men's setting (947 seats) before CSU reconfigured its building and Upstate joined D1. CU moved into the 3,095-seat Gore Arena before the 2008-09 season.
- Charleston Southern is 5-2 at home this season, 0-1 vs. Big South teams in the "Buc Dome." Campbell is 1-4 in true road games this year after winning 70-53 at UNC Asheville Wednesday in its first league away contest of the year.
- CSU's do-everything junior guard Christian Keeling ranks 4th among Big South scoring leaders (18.4), 8th in rebounding (6.1), 13th in field goal percentage (.422), 6th in assists (3.7), 3rd in free throw accuracy (.827), 13th in 3-point FG (2.0), 14th in steals (2.0) and 11th in blocks (0.7).
- Along with Radford, Winthrop and UNC Asheville, Campbell and Charleston Southern are original members of the Big South Conference since league play began in 1985-86. Campbell was a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference from 1994-2011.
