In the hunt
Despite suffering its first loss of the season in Big South play last week, 38-35, at the hands of No. 11 Kennesaw State, Campbell is still in the hunt for a share of the 2019 Big South Championship. The 15
th-ranked Hawks come into Saturday's game at the top of the conference standings with an unblemished 4-0 record in Big South games, while Campbell and Kennesaw State stand at 3-1 with two weeks remaining in the regular season.

Last time out
No. 11 Kennesaw State scored 21 unanswered points around halftime and held on for a 38-35 win over Campbell at Barker-Lane Stadium. Campbell twice cut the Owls advantage to three in the final period, but could not regain the lead.
Kennesaw backup quarterback Tommy Bryant came off the bench to run for 105 yards on 27 carries and add 91 more in the air on 5-of-7 completions in the Owls' option attack. Shaquil Terry had all five receptions for Kennesaw, good for 91 yards and two scores, while gaining 28 on the round on six attempts.
Campbell finished with a 386-343 advantage in total offense, and ran 71 plays to 61 for the visitors, but Kennesaw converted a pair of interceptions into 14 points in the second half.
Hajj-Malik Williams ran for 110 yards and threw for 233 more for the Camels, who have lost consecutive games for the first time this year.
Caleb Snead had 99 receiving yards on six catches.
Justice Galloway-Velazquez had 18 tackles and
Dorian Jones 10 stops for Campbell. Le'Vonte Larry led Kennesaw with eighth tackles.
The Camels' two losses against FCS opponents have come by just four total points.
Williams named to Jerry Rice Award watch list
Campbell quarterback
Hajj-Malik Williams has been named to the STATS Jerry Rice Award watch list, presented annually to the FCS freshman of the year.
A freshman from Atlanta, Ga., Williams has thrown for 1,729 yards and 16 touchdowns, completing nearly 60 percent of his passes, while starting all nine games for the Camels. The QB has also rushed for 528 yards and seven more touchdowns.
His 16 passing TDs are second-most all-time on the Campbell single-season charts, while his 1,729 passing yards stands fifth in CU single-season history. Williams has accounted for a touchdown throw and a rushing score in five games this season, ranking third in the Big South in total offense, and leading all conference freshman.
Williams has been named Big South Freshman of the Week four times, as well as honorable mention STATS FCS Freshman of the Week five times this season.
Leading the Camels
In addition to Williams' 2,257 yards of total offense,
Johnathan Hawkins has rushed for 461 yards with six touchdowns, adding another receiving TD, while
Cameron Davis has posted 397 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
Bryant Barr also adds a pair of rushing TDs.
Caleb Snead owns a team-best 554 receiving yards with six touchdowns, while
Davarius Bargnare has hauled in 331 yards and two TDs.
Jalen Kelsey tacks on a six receiving TDs with 371 yards.
Justice Galloway-Velazquez paces the CU defense with 82 tackles, adding 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, an interception and a blocked kick.
Darion Slade has also posted 46 stops with an interception and a forced fumble, while
Damien Dozier has collected 50 tackles with 8.0 stops for loss.
Brevin Allen adds a team-best 9.5 tackles for loss, including 5.5 sacks.
Find him in the end zone
Caleb Snead hauled in yet another touchdown catch for the Camels against Kennesaw State, posting six grabs for 99 yards. The redshirt sophomore has caught a TD pass in five of Campbell's nine games this season, owning at least one touchdown catch in 13 of his 20 career games, and 15 total touchdowns over that span. With his 33 yard touchdown catch in the second quarter against Davidson, Snead reached the 1,000 career receiving yards milestone, hitting the mark in just 14 career games – the fastest in school history (previous
Aaron Blockmon, 17 games as a redshirt sophomore in 2016). Snead also moved into second in school history with 1,364 career receiving yards, passing former standout
Ben Bolling (2012-15), currently on staff as CU's wide receivers' coach.
Packing Barker-Lane
Campbell is averaging 5,787 fans per game at 5,500 seat Barker-Lane Stadium this season, on pace to break the venue's single-season average of 5,546 (2017).
Scouting Monmouth
Campbell will host a nationally-ranked opponent for the second straight week when Monmouth travels to Buies Creek. The Hawks are ranked No. 15 in the AFCA Coaches' Poll and No. 17 by STATS. The Owls were the first nationally-ranked program to visit Barker-Lane Stadium, while Campbell took on a top-25 foe for the fourth time in program history.
One of the hottest teams in the FCS, Monmouth has won six straight games, including a 49-38 win over North Alabama last week. Kenji Bahar leads the Hawks, averaging 269.3 passing yards per game with 22 passing TDs on the year, while Lonnie Moore has hauled in 723 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns. Pete Guerriero adds 119.1 rushing yards per game with nine rushing scores.
On the defensive side, Da'Quan Grimes has collected a team-high 67 tackles with 9.0 stops for loss, while Anthony Budd owns five interceptions with 45 tackles.
