Softball announces 2020 schedule

Schedule features games against four reigning conference champions; six NCAA Tournament teams from last season

BUIES CREEK – Headlined by matchups with six NCAA Tournament teams, second-year head coach Sharonda McDonald announced the Campbell softball team 2020 schedule on Wednesday afternoon.

The Camels will open the season at the Kickin' Chicken Classic (Feb. 7-9) in Conway, S.C., where they will face East Carolina, Iowa, and defending ACC regular season champs Virginia Tech in the tournament hosted by Coastal Carolina.

CU will then head to North Carolina for a Wednesday matchup against the Tar Heels before hosting the Campbell Invitational (Feb. 14-16) as Bucknell, Saint Francis, Howard and Mount St. Mary's head to Buies Creek for the three-day tournament at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Campbell's nonconference schedule continues with a game at Duke followed by the Green and White Tournament (Feb. 21-23) hosted by Charlotte. 

The Camels then head down south for the Holy City Showdown tournament (Feb. 28 - Mar. 1) featuring matchups against reigning Southern Conference champions Chattanooga, Coppin State, Maine, and hosts College of Charleston.

A loaded five-game schedule of games awaits the Camels as the team heads to the state of Louisiana for a matchup against the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette followed by games against Illinois State and LSU in the LSU Round Robin tournament (Mar. 6-7) in Baton Rouge.

Campbell will kick off Big South Conference action on March 11-12 at home where they'll face Gardner-Webb followed by the Camel Stampede tournament on March 13-14 featuring Saint Joseph's and Pittsburgh.

The home stretch of games continues with a series against Big South champions Longwood on March 21-22 followed by a Wednesday night game against UNC Wilmington.

A five-day swing has the Camels with matchups against USC Upstate and Winthrop from March 28 through April 1 on the road.

CU returns home for a series against Presbyterian on April 4-5 and the Camels wrap up the non-conference schedule on the road in Raleigh against NC State on April 8. The squad then travels for a road series against Charleston Southern April 10-11.

The Camels final regular-season home series will be against Hampton on April 18-19, and they'll wrap up the regular season on the road against Radford on May 1-2.

The 2020 Big South Tournament will be hosted by Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C. from May 6-9.

Campbell softball is coming off an impressive season in head coach Sharonda McDonald's first season at the helm as the Camels finished third in the Big South regular season standings.
