Pontus Nyholm is sixth individually and Campbell is in fifth place on the team leader board after 36 holes Monday of the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club.
The two-time defending Border Olympics champion Camels finished the day 16-under par as a team (278-282—560), but trail 20th-ranked Arkansas State (275-270—545) by 15 shots heading into Tuesday's final round.
UT-Rio Grande Valley (272-284—556) is second, while Sam Houston State (280-278—558) and host Houston (277-281—558) are tied for third, two strokes ahead of the 45th-ranked Camels in the 16-school event.
A sophomore from Gavle, Sweden, Nyholm made nine birdies, 26 pars and only one bogey Monday and is 8-under-par (67-69—136). He trails individual leader Matthew Cole of Arkansas State (67-65—132) by four shots.
Nyholm played bogey-free golf in his opening-round 67, making five birdies and 13 pars. His only bogey of the day didn't come until his 22nd hole and he recorded his 13th and 14th rounds of par, or better, golf this season. Nyholm is tied for the lead in par-3 scoring (-2) and is fifth on the par-5 holes (-4).
Junior
Max Theodorakis (69-727—141) is tied for 15th place after making 24 pars Monday, while senior
Jesper Svensson (75-68—143) and red-shirt junior
Brett McLamb (70-73—143) are tied for 30th at 1-under par. Senior
Ray Kraivixien is tied for 61st (72-75—147).
As a team, the Camels are tied for the tournament lead with 117 pars and have made 38 birdies through 36 holes.
