BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After helping Campbell extend its dual match win streak to six outings,
Bastien Huon has been named Big South Conference men's tennis player of the week.
A junior from Redene, France, Huon went 3-0 last week to help Campbell finish with a 2-0 record. He won on the No. 2 court in both singles and doubles against Duquesne, with a 6-1 win in doubles and a 6-2, 7-6 win in singles. Huon then claimed victory at the No. 2 singles court over South Carolina State (7-5, 5-7, 6-2) to help the Camels win the match 4-3.
Huon extended his singles win streak to seven matches and improved to 8-1 on the spring season, including a 5-0 mark at No. 2. He has combined with
Ondrej Labik to post a 4-2 record at the second doubles position, including wins in their last three decisions.
The defending Big South champion and preseason favorite, Campbell (7-3, 1-0) returns to league play with a two-match swing beginning Friday at Gardner-Webb (2:30) and Saturday at Presbyterian (2:00).
Campbell opened its Big South slate Mar. 2 with a 6-1 victory over USC Upstate.
Friday's contest will be the Big South opener for Gardner-Webb (3-5) after last Saturday's match vs. Longwood was rained out. PC stands 8-8 overall, 2-0 in the Big South with league wins over Hampton (7-0) and USC Upstate (5-2).
