BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Head Coach
David Johnson has announced the additions of Adam Patry and Heath Paul Waters to the men's tennis program.
"We're adding two players that will make a big impact on our team," Johnson said.
A rising sophomore from Quebec, Patry joins the Camels after spending last season at Gardner-Webb. He concluded his freshman season with a win over Longwood's Alejandro Uribe in the Big South Championship match, followed by an unfinished match against Old Dominion in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, where he was one of two Runnin' Bulldogs to win a set.
A standout player in Quebec, Patry was ranked as high as 11 in doubles and 13 in singles play and reached 720 in ITF Juniors rankings. He was a three-time winner in doubles play at the ITF J30 and once took the title in singles play at the event.
"Adam enrolled at his previous school in January and ultimately ended up playing in the NCAA tournament," said Johnson. "He's a tall, strong, athletic player with a solid overall game."
Another rising sophomore, Waters comes to Buies Creek from Rider, where he helped the Broncs earn their first ever Metro Conference title. He faced the No. 58 ranked player in the NCAA Tournament match against Virginia, leading by a break in set two when the match concluded.
Waters also recorded victories over Anuj Watane (North Carolina), James Weber (Georgia) and Alex Van Lumich (Lehigh), who each have a UTR ranking over 12.25. His mother, Lindsey Lee Waters, is a former World No. 33 on the WTA Tour, and his dad, Heath Waters, has spent over 20 years as a professional coach working on the WTA and ATP tours.
"[Waters] also brings NCAA tournament experience after helping his team win the conference title," Johnson said. "He brings a strong background of experienced play from his junior days, as he was highly ranked. He too will make a strong addition to the team."
