BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Winners of three of its last four, Campbell (8-15, 2-1 Big South) welcomes Youngstown State (2-10) to Amanda Littlejohn Stadium for a midweek doubleheader Wednesday.
Wednesday's slate of matchups is set to begin with game one at 2:00 p.m. followed by game two 30 minutes after the completion of game one. Both games can be streamed live on ESPN+ and can be followed via live stats and on twitter - @GoCamelsSB.
Last series
Campbell won two-of-three games over Winthrop to claim its conference-opening series this past weekend.
Campbell pinch hitter Hannah Jones and center fielder Claudia Ware drove in a run each as Campbell used a two-run fifth inning to win game one of the doubleheader. Prior to Jones' double, Danielle Northrup walked and was moved over to third on the Jones double. One batter later, Claudia Ware laid down a bunt which allowed Northrup to slide in safely at the plate on the squeeze play.
Abby Perryman drove in two runs and plated one more of her own and Megan Richards tossed her seventh complete game of the season as Campbell topped Winthrop 4-3 to claim the series against the Eagles.
For the second time over the weekend Campbell locked up a one-run lead in the final frame to claim a win over Winthrop. Megan Richards tossed all seven frames in both outings going 2-0 while allowing just four runs for a 2.57 ERA over the stretch.
Bri Bryant on BaseÂ
The sophomore outfielder sent an RBI single up the middle in the series cap over Winthrop to extended her on-base streak to 14-straight games. Bryant is batting .321 on the season with a .345 on-base percentage. Bryant is one of four Campbell players to start in every game for the Camels this season
Doubling up
Campbell leads the Big South Conference in doubles with 36 on the year and doubles per game with 1.57. Abby Perryman leads the Camels and ranks fourth in the Big South with seven on the year and third in doubles per game (0.32)
The Matchup
The Camels and Penguins have met just four times and have split the series 2-2. The two squads last met in 2013 where Campbell topped Youngstown State 9-7 at the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament in Kennesaw, Ga
On Deck
Campbell heads to new conference member Hampton for its second conference series of the season. Campbell currently sits atop the Big South standings after just one weekend of conference play which featured only one conference series. The three-game slate will serve as Hampton's first conference series as a member of the Big South Conference. The Pirates host a pair of midweek doubleheader matchups against South Carolina State and Coppin State before welcoming Campbell to the Chesapeake Bay Area
