Camels face No. 6 ECU in Greenville Tuesday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. — Campbell baseball travels to Greenville on Tuesday, May 14 to face the No. 6 ECU Pirates, a team the Camels defeated 7-6 back on February 20. First pitch at Clark-LeClair Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Last Tuesday, the Camels defeated the then-No. 17 NC State Wolfpack in Raleigh, 5-4. As part of Campbell's five-run fourth inning, junior outfielder Grant Harris launched a three-run, go-ahead home run which put the Camels ahead by two, 4-2.

Campbell dropped its first Big South series in over a year over the weekend as Winthrop took two of three from the Camels in Rock Hill, S.C. Tyler Anshaw led the CU offense against Winthrop by going 7-for-14 with two doubles, a solo home run and a three-run home run.

Campbell never trailed ECU, but withstood a pair of three run innings by the Pirates, who tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the ninth. ECU scored six runs in the final two innings on four hits after the Campbell pitching staff held the Pirates to no runs and two hits in the previous seven innings. Seven Camels combined to strike out 11 Pirates, with each pitcher recording at least one K.

ECU clinched the American Athletic Conference over the weekend, defeating Wichita State in two out of three games. The Pirates are 21-4 at home. Five Pirates own batting averages above .300 as they are led by Alex Burleson's .373 batting clip. The ECU pitching staff ranks ninth nationally with a 3.33 ERA.

Following the midweek contest at ECU, the Fighting Camels will return home to face Longwood Thursday through Saturday for a Big South series. The three-game set is scheduled for May 16-18 at Jim Perry Stadium. The series finale on Saturday, May 18 will also feature a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
