AUSTIN, TX -- Nine time All-American performer
Lawrence Kipkoech closed out his collegiate career Wednesday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the 10,000m event.
Kipkoech placed 24th at this year's NCAA Championships to round out his decorated Campbell career. Kipkoech paired his nine All-America honors by never failing to qualify for a 10K event in both cross country and track and field across eight opportunities, making him a perfect 8-for-8 in that event.
"Right around the 5K mark, Lawrence's lower back really tightened up on him and he was not able to go with the pack," said Campbell head coach
Michael Kelly. "This is not the way we wanted to see his last race play out but I cannot be more proud of him and what he has done over the last four and a half years."
The Eldoret, Kenya native closed out his senior campaign by tabbing three Big South Outdoor titles in the men's 1500m, 5000m, and 10000m events in 2019. The red shirt senior also set a new school record in the men's 10000m at the Raleigh Relays earlier this season.
Kipkoech opened up his highly successful senior campaign by claiming All-America honors at the NCAA Cross Country National Championship in Madison, WI earlier in his final campaign.
