Marshall, newcomer McBride set for Pan Am Games

San José, Costa Rica ­- Campbell rookie Patience Marshall and incoming freshman Charles McBride are set to compete for Team USA at the 2019 Pan American U20 Championships in San José, Costa Rica.
 
Marshall will compete in the shot put event on Friday at 7:10 p.m. eastern time while McBride will take part in the high jump event on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
 
Marshall enters the event after claiming the event title at the USA Track and Field Championships in Miramar, Fla. The Big South Conference Champion in both the shot put and discus throw events stapled a school and league record with a marking of 16.05m.
 
Her mark surpasses previous Big South record holder Naomi Mojica who set a mark of 15.93m at the Big South Championship on May 10, 2018..
 
The record marked the third time in her rookie outdoor campaign where she surpassed a program best. Her mark enters the field as the second best ledger in the event.
 
A two-time First Team All-USA honoree as named by USA Today, Charles McBride enters the event after edging out his competitor in a jump off which solidified his spot on Team USA for the second straight season. His mark tied for second as top high school finisher at the USATF Junior Championships
 
McBride produced the season's No. 2 high jump mark, 7-1, in route to winning the North Carolina State title.
 
A season ago, McBride placed 9th in Buenos Aires with a 6-8 mark at the Pan Am games to help him tab First Team All-USA honors.
