BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell continues its Big South Conference opening week home stand Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. tip-off against Winthrop at Gore Arena.
The Camels (9-4, 0-1) are coming off a hard-fought 67-65 loss Thursday to defending league tourney champ Gardner-Webb. Winthrop (7-7, 1-0), knocked down a season-high 16 threes Thursday in a 91-67 win over Longwood at Rock Hill, S.C.
On Thursday in Buies Creek, Campbell cut a 10-point deficit to just two down the stretch, but could not complete the comeback.
Cedric Henderson, Jr. (14) led 5 Camels in double figures, while
Cory Gensler added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

Jordan Whitfield scored 10 points apiece.
Hunter Hale led Winthrop with a career-high 29 points, including 6-of-12 threes, while Josh Ferguson added 17 and Chandler Vaudrin recorded a triple-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists (plus 6 steals) against the Lancers.
- Campbell ranks 7th in the nation in 3-point FG defense (.260), 15th in turnover margin (+5.4) 15th in free throw percentage (.780) and 22nd in turnovers forced (17.77).
- Winthrop stands 17th in the nation in 3-point attempts (399), 19th in 3-pointers made per game (9.9) and 21st in offensive rebounds (13.43).
- Paced by Henderson (12.5), and Gensler (9.3), five Camels are averaging at least 8.1 points per outing, while 11 are playing double-figure minutes.
- Since re-joining the Big South in 2011-12, Campbell is 4-3 against Winthrop at Gore Arena.
- The team that has led at halftime has won seven of the last eight meetings between the Camels and Eagles. CU led the Eagles 47-46 at halftime on Jan. 10, 2019 before Winthrop rallied for a 90-86 victory.
- Winthrop is 2-5 on the road this year with wins at Hartford (67-57 on Nov. 7) and No.-18 Saint Mary's (61-59 on Nov. 11). The Eagles have lost their last four contests away from Rock Hill at ETSU (61-58), No.-1 Duke (83-70), TCU (70-60) and Furman (80-73).
- The Eagles lead all Big South teams in scoring margin (+7.6), rebounding margin (+5.7), assists (16.0), offensive rebounds (13.4) and 3-pointers made (9.9), while ranking second in scoring offense (79.1) and 3-point FG percentage (.348).
- Campbell tops the Big South in team free throw percentage (.780), while Winthrop is last (.610).
- The Camels lead the league in scoring defense (63.4), field goal percentage defense (.413) and 3-point field goal defense (.260), while ranking 2nd in steals (9.2) and turnover margin (+5.4).
- Transfers have made a big impact on the Winthrop roster this season. Chandler Vaudrin - a 6-7 junior who joined the Eagles from D2 Walsh University - leads the Big South in assists (5.9) and assist-turnover ratio (2.7), while rating 6th in rebounds (6.2) and 30th in scoring (9.1). Grad transfer Hunter Hale is 17th in the league in scoring (11.6) and 4th in 3s made per game (2.3) after starting his career at Central Michigan ('15-16) and spending the last two seasons at D2 Grand Valley State.
