BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After adding another tournament title and finishing runner-up at the prestigious Midlands Championships, Campbell's
Josh Heil has been named the Southern Conference's Wrestler of the Month for December.
Heil, also the SoCon's
November Wrestler of the Month, fashioned an 11-1 overall record in December, adding yet another tournament title to his 2019-20 resume, as well as posting a Midlands Championships finals appearance.
Heil raced through the Reno Tournament of Champions, topping the podium for the third time in 2019-20 and going 6-0 in Reno. Heil's tear continued to the Midlands finals, where he saw his 16-match winning streak snapped by No. 7 Max Murin of Iowa, 5-3. Heil made it to the finals with a 4-2 win over No. 8 Tristan Moran of Wisconsin, his fifth win of the season against a ranked opponent.
The Brunswick, Ohio native is now 20-2 overall on the season, ranking as high as No. 8 individually at 141 pounds (FloWrestling, InterMat).
Campbell will head back on the road this weekend, traveling to No. 4 Arizona State for duals with the Sun Devils, No. 11 Iowa State and Harvard on Saturday, January 11. The Camels will make their home debut January 18, beginning their SoCon slate with The Citadel.
