BLACKSBURG, VA. - Campbell track & field wrapped up the first day of the Big South Championships with both men's and women's teams in second-place.
High Point leads both men's and women's standings while Campbell trails slightly behind. Charleston Southern sits third in the men while Hampton is in third for the women.
Madeline Mayfield set a new school record in the pentathlon, earning 3340 points and finishing fifth overall.
Athanas Kioko captured first place in the men's 5000m, setting a new conference championship meet record time of 14:14.20 in the process. Kioko also anchored the men's DMR team, also comprised of Laderique McNeill, Collin Cooper and Pace Clark. The team would go on to capture first-place for the fourth straight season with a time of 10:05.68.Â
Godwin Kimutai set a new personal best time in the 5000m, posting a podium finish in 14:41.62 for third.
On the women's side, the Camels DMR team took first for the second straight year. The team of Madeline Fitch, Nascha Blue, Madelyn Rodriguez and Shanley Koekemoer finished in 12:10.53.
In the field, Patience Marshall and Jenna Dankert took first and second respectively in the women's shot put.Â
Dameon Creary defended his men's long jump title, posting a mark of 7.51m (24' 7.75") in first-place.
Several Camels qualified for the finals of events after racing in preliminary events today. Finals for all events will be held tomorrow.Â
