BLACKSBURG, VA. - For the fourth-straight season in a row the Campbell men finished as runners-up at the Big South Indoor Championships, held at the Rector Field House, while the women finished third overall.
High Point claimed both the men's and women's titles while Hampton finished third on the men's side and runners-up in the women's standings.
Athanas Kioko was named the conference's most valuable athlete following the event. Kioko earned four first-place finishes in all four events he competed in. As an individual the junior took first in the mile run, 3000m and 5000m. Kioko also helped the Campbell distance medley relay team capture first-place.Â
Sophomore standout Patience Marshall was named as the women's field most outstanding performer after she claimed the shot put title on day one and placed fourth in the weight throw, setting a personal best, on day two.Â
Naelee Stone broke the women's 60 meter school record, finishing in 7.49. Stone bested former Camel Anna Scott's time of 7.53 set in 2014. Stone, a freshman, moved into a tie for the eighth-best time in Big South history as well.Â
Daequon Carr broke his own 60 meter school-record on the men's side for the second time in three weeks. Carr's new record clocked in at 6.71, marking the fourth-fastest time in Big South history. The senior claimed first-place in the 60 meters for the third time in his career.
In the men's distance events, Godwin Kimutai and Laderique McNeill joined Kioko in earning All-Big South honors. Kimutai finished third in the men's 3000 meter run with a 8:38.71 time while McNeill took third in the men's mile run at 4:11.29.
Shanley Koekemoer earned a second-place finish in the women's mile run, finishing in 4:57.39.
Elsewhere on the track, Trevon Compito claimed third in the men's 400 meter after posting a 49.21 time.
On the field, Maura Lane took third in the women's pole vault after clearing 3.51m / 11' 6.25" today. Hailey Huston Myles took home Big South honors in the women's triple jump with her 12.32m / 40' 5" mark in second place.
Ronald Henderson Jr. placed second in the men's high jump, setting a new personal record in the process at 2.08m / 6' 9".
