Box Score CONWAY, S.C. - Campbell softball (0-1) fell to East Carolina (1-1) 12-0 in five innings on the opening day of the Kickin' Chicken Classic at St. John Stadium.
The Pirates put two runners on in the first inning and scored one run off of junior shortstop Ashleigh Inae's single to center field.
In the bottom half of the first, graduate transfer Destini England leadoff and reached safely on an infield single. England stole second as junior Kayla Fredendall earned a walk to put two runners on for the Camels with one out in the inning. Kynadi Tipler lined out on a powerful hit to Mason Hedgecock in left field who threw it to second for the double-play.
ECU opened up the second inning with a triple on a fly ball down the right field line. The ball seemingly looked foul but fell just fair despite Tipler's best efforts to make the out with 20-MPH gusts of wind in effect.
After walking two batters, starting pitcher and freshman Georgeanna Barefoot picked up her first career strikeout with the bases loaded. ECU then added on four runs on three straight hits before Barefoot could get out of the jam.
The Pirates planted four more runs on two hits in the fourth. Logyn Estes' batted in two runs on her double to left center. Estes would cross the plate after another hit to left center.
ECU extended its lead to 12 in the fifth as Chandley Garner, pinch-hitter Courtney Layton, and Bailey Ledvina drove in runs with hits.
Morgan Rios recorded the first extra-base hit of the season for the Camels on her two-out double in the second.
Katelyn Chisholm connected with Noemi Cortez for as the Pirates grounded into a 6-3 double play in the third.
Barefoot (0-1) took the loss in the circle as she gave up five earned runs on seven hits and five walks while Kayla Howald picked up three strikeouts in relief.
