Lockwood inks professional contract with Apollon Ladies F.C.

Former Campbell standout signs to play professional with club in Cyprus

BUIES CREEK - Former Campbell women's soccer standout Katie Lockwood has inked a professional contract with Apollon Ladies Football Club in Cyprus, the club announced Monday morning. 

Apollon Ladies F.C. is the leading club in Cyprus, having won the Cypriot First Division in 10 out of the past 11 seasons to qualify for the UEFA Women's Champion League. The club has advanced to the Round of 32 in the Champions League six times, including as recently as 2016-17.

"It's a dream come true to sign my first professional contract," Lockwood said. "I can't wait to get going! I'm so excited about the opportunity to play in the Champions League."

The Huddersfield, England native spent the 2019 season playing for Campbell as a transfer from Alabama. Lockwood tallied the second-most points on the team with 26 total after scoring nine goals and adding eight assists in 16 games.

Lockwood was selected to the All-Big South First Team, the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) All-State First Team, and the United Soccer Coaches Association All-Southeast Region Second Team.

"I will always be thankful to Campbell University from the coaches, to the support staff, and to my amazing teammates who've always pushed me to be the best I can be."

Lockwood joins several Campbell women's soccer alums playing professional including Ashley Clark (La Havre), Murita Storey (CD Castellon) and Chilean National Team selection Ryanne Torerro (La Roja).
