BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Seven Campbell standouts have been named to the ASUN Conference men's soccer 2000-09 All-Decade team. Willy Guadarrama (2004-06), Richard Jata (2006-08), Aaron Johnson (2005-08), Stephen Oyuga (2006-08), Vince Petrasso (2006-09), Devin Sheppard (2003-06) and Josue Soto (2007-08) played key roles on Coach Doug Hess' teams that captured three regular season (2005, 2008, 2009) titles and one ASUN tournament crown (2007) in a five year span from '05-09.
To be named to the All-Decade team an individual must have competed for at least two years in the decade as an ASUN student-athlete. Individuals that obtained one of the following criteria were named to the team: three first team all-conference selections, four all-conference selections, multiple Player of the Year honors, ASUN Hall of Famer. Individuals that obtained at least two of the following criteria were also named to the team: Player/Freshman/Defensive Player/Goalkeeper of the Year, three all-conference selections, two first team all-conference awards.
After 17 years as an ASUN member, Campbell re-joined the Big South Conference in the summer of 2011.
Willy Guadarrama (2004-06)
The ASUN Conference match record holder for goals (5) and points (10), Guadarrama was named the league's
Player of the Year in 2005 after leading Campbell to the ASUN regular season title. He was named to the all-conference first team and all-tournament team in 2005 and 2006 along with earning four career Player of the Week honors. He was named 3rd-team All-American by the NSCAA in 2005 after leading the nation in goals (21) and points (46) per game.
Richard Jata (2006-08)
The 2008
Player of the Year, Jata ranks second in ASUN history for most career game-winning goals with 12. He was named first team all-conference in each of his three seasons (2006-08) at Campbell and earned all-tournament team honors twice (2007-08). Jata was a member of Campbell's 2007 ASUN Championship team and 2008 ASUN regular season champion squad. He was tabbed second-team All-American in 2008.
Aaron Johnson (2005-08)
One of the most decorated goalkeepers in ASUN history, Johnson is a two-time
Defensive Player of the Year (2005, 2008), four-time all-conference selection (2005-08), three-time all-tournament team member (2005-07) and seven-time Defensive Player of the Week. In the ASUN career record book, he ranks fourth in both shutouts (21) and GAA (1.08), sixth in saves (331) and seventh in games started (74). Johnson also helped guide Campbell to the 2007 ASUN Championship title and regular season crowns in 2005 and 2008. He was named to the NSCAA All-South Region second team in '08.
Stephen Oyuga Campbell (2006-08)
A three-time All-Conference honoree with a pair of first team selections (2007-08), Oyuga also earned two all-tournament team distinctions in 2007 and 2008. He was a member of Campbell's 2007 ASUN Championship team and 2008 ASUN regular season champion squad. Oyuga was also a first-team NSCAA All-South Region selection in 2008.
Vince Petrasso, Campbell (2006-09)
Petrasso, the 2009 ASUN Player of the Year, earned a pair of first team all-conference distinctions (2008-09) and was named to two all-tournament teams (2007, 2009). He was named the 2007 ASUN Championship MVP after leading the Camels to the title and was a member of Campbell's 2008 and 2009 teams that captured the ASUN regular season trophy.
Devin Sheppard (2003-06)
The 2005 ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, Sheppard was also named to the all-tournament team and led Campbell to the ASUN regular season title that same season. He also earned a pair of first team all-conference distinctions during his career in 2005 and 2006. He was named 1st-team CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2006 and was twice selected to the NSCAA All-South Region team.
Josue Soto (2007-08)
Despite only playing in the ASUN for two seasons, Soto earned a pair of first team All-ASUN honors (2007-08) along with the Freshman of the Year award in 2007. He led Campbell to the 2007 ASUN Championship title and 2008 regular season trophy and his 11 assists in 2008 are tied for first in league single-season history. Soto was twice named to the NSCAA All-South Region team and was a Freshman All-America selection by College Soccer News.
