COLUMBIA, S.C. - Records and podium finishes abounded as the Camels opened their 2021 indoor track and field season at the Carolina Challenge hosted by the University of South Carolina, on Saturday.
IN THE FIELD
Transfer
Andre Douglas made an impressive Campbell debut breaking and setting a new school record on his way to a first place finish in the men's triple jump with a mark of 15.69m.
In the women's triple jump senior,
Hailey Huston Myles had an impressive season opener finishing in a podium position of third place with a jump of 12.03m.
Sophomore,
C.J. McBride made his season debut in the high jump finishing second clearing 2.10m.
ON THE TRACK
Senior
Athanas Kioko, set another facility record at the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex and came in first in the men's 3000m in a time of 8:04.58.
On the women's side
Dorcus Ewoi led a fantastic team performance in the women's 3000m setting a facility record and winning in a time of 9:34.33. She was followed closely by teammate
Shanley Koekemoer in second (9:41.46) and
Lesego Mpshe in fourth (10:02.95).
In the men's mile Travis Koekemoer made his Campbell debut with an impressive second place finish in a time of 4:05.65.
In the sprints senior
Samuel Adams led the way with a third place finish in the men's 60m dash in a time of 6.80.
UP NEXT
The Camels will travel to Lynchberg, Va. to compete in the Brant Tolsma Invitational (Feb. 6) at Liberty University.
