Campbell defeats UNC Asheville 3-1

Camels remain unbeaten at home this season

Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell rebounded from its first loss in a month Saturday with a convincing 3-1 victory over UNC Asheville at the Eakes Athletic Complex.

Cameron Turner, Hayley Krahenbil and Amber Liston scored for the Camels (7-3-2, 5-1-0), who outshot the Bulldogs (3-10-1, 2-4-0) by a 25-3 margin and hit the woodwork four times.

Campbell jumped in front in the fifth minute when Emma Bushee's shot hit the cross bar and Turner was in position to head in the rebound for her third goal of the season.

Asheville equalized less than 10 minutes later on the team's only real chance of the opening half.  On a counterattack, Kaiya Boyd cut back at the corner of the area and sent a low cross to Barrett Eidson who hit a right-footed shot inside the far post for her first score of the year.

However, that would be Asheville's only shot for the next hour and only attempt on target all night.

Krahenbil headed in Cazzi Norgren's corner kick in the 19th minute to put the Camels back in front.

Campbell hit the woodwork twice more – Richards' 24th-minute header and Norgren's blast off the left post in the 32nd – before halftime.  CU out-shot the Bulldogs 13-1 in the opening period and did not surrender a corner kick.

Laney Peabody's header off Norgren's corner hit the right post in the 61st minute.  However, Campbell added an insurance goal off Liston's blast less than a minute later.

With 15 points through six league matches, Campbell pulled within two of Big South leader Longwood, which dealt the Camels their only setback in conference play by a 1-0 margin three days earlier.

"It's always good to come back from a tough loss with a good performance," said Campbell head coach Samar Azem.  "The girls pressed a lot better and definitely took more control of this game.  It's always good when you get three goals, it's always good when you get three points, but I was just really happy with the performance."

The Camels, who improved to 5-0-1 at home this season, host Gardner-Webb Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
