ANCHORAGE, KY. - Athanas Kioko finished first overall at the NCAA Southeast Regional, automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championship next week.
Kioko finished the 10K course in 28:58.1, ahead of Wake Forest's Aaron Las Heras (2nd, 29:17.9) and Charleston Southern's Fearghal Curtin (3rd, 29:19.0).
The Machakos, Kenya native will compete at the NCAA Championship for the second time in his career after qualifying for the meet in 2019 where he earned All-American honors, finishing 19th overall.
Kioko joins former Campbell runners Amon Terer (1st, 2016) and Lawrence Kipkoech (1st, 2017) to place overall at the regional meet.
Wake Forest took home top team honors as its top five runners finished within the top 20.
On the women's side Dorcus Ewoi finished 24th overall setting a personal best time of 20:53.2 in the 6K race. Lesego Mpshe placed 74th, also setting a personal best at 22:03.7.
NC State's Kelsey Chimel finished first overall for the women with a time of 19:58.4. The Wolfpack finished first as a team followed by North Carolina.

The NCAA Championship is set for Saturday, Nov. 20 starting at 10 a.m. in Tallahassee, Fla. The meet will be exclusively presented on ESPNU and available to watch through the ESPN app.
