Last time out
Jett Duffey's go-ahead touchdown with 2:10 to go lifted visiting Hampton over Campbell 28-21 at Barker-Lane Stadium.

Campbell led its 2021 home finale 14-7 at the half after CJ Freeman's three yard rush, but an Ohmante Jenkins' strip sack, one of two on the day for the defensive lineman, was returned by KeShaun Moore for a HU touchdown, and a pair Axel Perez field goals pushed the Hampton lead to 20-14.

Campbell regained the lead on Dylan Earney's 42 yard touchdown pass to Jalen Kelsey with 6:16 on the clock in the fourth quarter, 21-20, but the Pirates responded with a 10 play, 75 yard march, including a 26 yard pass to Elijah Burris, and capped by Duffey's one yard TD. The two point conversion from Duffey to Tymere Robinson gave Hampton a seven point lead with 2:10 remaining.

Hampton accumulated 237 of its 353 yards in the second half, controlling the ball for 21:32 after the break.

Leading the Camels
Wide receiver Caleb Snead leads the Camels with 10 touchdown catches on 66 total grabs with 997 yards, while Bryant Barr has rushed for 324 yards with six total touchdowns. Wiley Hartley has also completed nearly 61 percent of his passes for 1,602 yards and 14 touchdowns in six games.

Defensively, Keshawn Thompson owns a team-high 78 tackles, while Darion Slade adds 53 tackles with 4.0 stops for loss, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. Brevin Allen has posted a Big South-leading 17.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. Malik Grate has also tallied two interceptions, a fumble recovery and 32 tackles.

Allen added to Buchanan Award watch list
Campbell defensive end Brevin Allen has been added to the watch list for the 2021 Stats Perform FCS Buck Buchanan Award, presented annually to the national defensive player of the year in college football's Division I subdivision.

The Buchanan Award, now in its 27th season, is named for the legendary Hall of Fame defensive lineman. Past recipients include two-time winner Dexter Coakley, Rashean Mathis and Jared Allen.

The senior ranks eighth in the FCS in tackles for loss with 17.5, while standing 14th in the country in sacks with 9.5. Allen leads the Big South in both categories.

With another sack in last week's third quarter against Hampton, the senior defensive end became Campbell's single season record holder in the category, surpassing Emmanuel Olenga's 2017 mark. Allen also tied Campbell's single season record for tackles for loss (Jeremiah Robinson, 2011).

Allen, A Greensboro, N.C. native, owns 38 total tackles on the year with two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery, recording a TFL in eight of CU's 10 games this season. The October 11 Big South Defensive Player of the Week also owns three multi-sack games.

Camels in the backfield
Chris Cromartie and Allen combined for four of Campbell's nine tackles for loss against the Pirates. Campbell has registered eight or more tackles for loss five times this season.
CU's season-high in the category came against Presbyterian, with 11, while its season-best against a Big South opponent, with 10, coming a week later at North Alabama.

Earney starts at QB
Dylan Earney, a redshirt junior from Charlotte, N.C., started at quarterback for the Camels. The third QB to start a game for the Camels this season after Hajj-Malik Williams and Wiley Hartley were both unavailable due to injury, the former walk-on completed 16-of-29 throws for 196 yards and a TD.

A three-year starter, Williams started four games for the Camels this season, while Hartley has started six in relief.

Prior to Saturday's game, Earney, awarded an athletic scholarship during preseason camp in August, saw time in three career games, all this season, at Liberty, against Presbyterian and at Gardner-Webb, completing 4-of-5 passes for 82 yards, all against PC.

Snead sets TD record, reaches 2,000 career yards
With two more touchdowns at No. 3 James Madison, Caleb Snead became Campbell's all-time leader in receiving scores, now with 25. Just the fourth Camel in history to score at least 20 career touchdowns, along with De'Shawn Jones' 22 (2013-16), as well as Aaron Blockmon (2015-18) and Daniel Smith (2017-18), who also scored 25 career TDs.

Snead posted a record-setting performance against the nationally-ranked Dukes, collecting 11 catches for 198 yards, both CU single game records, with two touchdowns. Snead also set the CU single season catches record, now with 66, and is now tied for the program's single season receiving TDs mark with 10.

For the season, Snead owns 997 receiving yards, seeking Campbell's second ever 1,000 yard receiving season following Blockmon's 2016 campaign (1,038 yards, 10 touchdowns).

Standing sixth in the FCS in receiving yards and eighth in receiving TDs, the redshirt senior became the second Camel in history to surpass 2,000 career receiving yards (now with 2,361), second only to Blockmon (2,647).

Record watch
In addition to Snead's record setting season and career marks, as well as Allen's standout season, other Camels are in striking distance to top the CU record books.

Quarterback Wiley Hartley, despite playing only six of Campbell's nine games, has completed 14 touchdown passes, currently ranking fourth all-time, trailing Daniel Smith's 18 in 2017. He has completed 126 passes this season, tied with Daniel Smith's 2018 total for seventh in a category led by Brian Hudson's 183 in 2013. Hartley also ranks sixth in single season passing yards with 1,602, eyeing Hudson's 2013 record of 2,184.

With 17.0 career sacks, Allen is also third all-time in CU history, behind Isaac Scott (2011-14) with 17.5, and Ugonna Awuruonye (2013-15) with 20.5. Allen also ranks third in career tackles for loss with 30.5. Awuruonye stands ahead of Allen with 34.5, and led by Jack Ryan's 36.5 (2015-18).

Take it away
Campbell owns 23 takeaways on the season, all over its last eight games, ranking third in the FCS for the 2021 season.

In the win at North Alabama to open Big South play, CU notched two defensive touchdowns (fumble or interception return) in a game for just the third time in its modern era (since 2008), accomplishing the feat for the first time against a Division I opponent. The Camels also scored two defensive TDs against Apprentice in 2011 (fumble return, interception return) and at Carthage in 2008 (two interception returns). It was the first time a Campbell team had returned two fumbles for touchdowns in a game.

Campbell scored its fourth defensive touchdown of the season Kennesaw State, ranking second in the FCS. Levi Wiggins picked up a CJ Tillman forced fumble and returned the ball 94 yards for the TD. It marked the longest fumble return in Campbell history.

Campbell owns 14 non-offensive touchdowns since 2017.

Camels among national leaders
Campbell is third in the FCS in turnovers gained (23), second defensive touchdowns (4) and fourth in fumbles recovered (12), also ranking among the national leaders in several other statistical categories.

The Camels also rank 15th in passes intercepted with 12 and 26th in passing offense 257.8, while leading the Big South in seven team statistical categories.

In addition to Snead and Allen ranking among the FCS' individual statistical leaders, with Gabe Holmes ranking 11th in fumbles recovered (2), Josh McNeely ranking 13th in kickoff returns (26.9 yards per return) and Jalen Kelsey standing 16th in yards per catch (19.06).
