Camels close regular season at Omaha

Big South regular season champs unbeaten in last seven

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell (12-3-2, 7-0-1) steps outside Big South Conference play Wednesday when it travels to Summit League member Omaha (5-8-1) for a 7:00 p.m. (CDT) kickoff. The match will air on Mavs All-Access via OMavs.com.
 
LAST TIME OUT:  Campbell - The Camels stretched their unbeaten streak to seven matches (6-0-1) in a 0-0 draw Saturday at Big South runnerup High Point.  CU held the Panthers to zero shots on target in the first half and just two for the night.  Edu Rodriguez earned his 4th shutout of the year and extended his personal shutout streak to 424 minutes... Omaha - The Mavericks won 2-0 Satuday at Summit League leader Denver behind goals from Mikkel Fodstand and Mboma Dem to end a three-match losing streak.
 
SILVERWARE COUNT:  The 2021 regular season title marks Campbell's fourth Big South trophy in the last four seasons.  CU won the Big South tournament in 2018, and the league double in 2019.
 
POTENT OFFENSE:  Campbell ranks 8th in the country in goals per game (2.53) and 7th in goal differential (+26), second in total points (130) and total goals (43), 5th in total assists (44) and 19th in won-lost-tied percentage (.765)... CU has scored multiple goals in 11 of its 17 outings, including a season-high 6 vs. Gardner-Webb (10/6)... Through 17 matches, 13 different Camels have scored... Tyler Young leads the Big South and ranks 10th nationally with 27 points (9G, 9A).  He also is 6th nationally in total assists and 26th in total goals.  Three Camels - Young (1st), Daniel Hernandez (T7, 5G) and Kemy Amiche (T7, 5G) rank among the Big South's top 10 goal scorers.  Amiche (5G, 8A) is 2nd in points (18) and assists.
 
THE OMAHA SERIES: Campbell and Omaha meet for the second time on Wednesday.  The teams played to a scoreless draw Oct. 3, 2018 at Omaha when Matt Karasinski saved a second half penalty kick and the Camels played the final 24 minutes a man down.
 
BIG SOUTH SUCCESS: CU is now 25-1-4 in its last 30 games (regular season and tournament) vs. Big South foes, including a 21-1-2 mark in regular season play over the last three seasons... A 1-0 loss Mar. 13 to High Point ended CU's 16-match unbeaten streak (14-0-2) vs. Big South opponents. Campbell has won 4 BSC trophies over the last 4 seasons - 2018 tournament, 2019 regular season and tournament, 2021 regular season... Campbell posted a 0.49 GAA in its league games this season and outscored its Big South foes 22-4.
 
OMAHA GLANCE:  The Mavs are third in the Summit League standing (3-2) heading into their regular season finale vs. Western Illinois Saturday... Omaha has allowed only 12 goals in 14 matches, but has scored just 11... Mboma Dem (1G, 3A) tops the club with 5 points, hwile Malik Elmi and Hugo Kametani have each scored twice... Nathaniel Sallah owns a 0.85 GAA and two shutouts in 8 matches.
 
HEAD COACH DUSTIN FONDER (Roanoke, '94) is in his seventh season at Campbell (70-44-12 overall, 37-16-4 Big South).  His overall head coaching record stands at 148-107-30, including a 78-63-18 mark in eight seasons at High Point.  Fonder guided the 2018 Camels to their first conference tournament title and NCAA College Cup berth since 2007.  He was named 2019 Big South Coach of the Year after leading the Camels to the program's first league regular season title since 2009... Also named Big South Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2010 while at High Point.

BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP COMING: Top-seeded Campbell and second seed High Point have earned first-round byes in the Big South Championship and will host semifinal matches on Wed., Nov. 10.  First round contests are set for Sunday, Nov. 7 with the third seed hosting the sixth and the fourth seed hosting the fifth..
 
NEXT: Following Wednesday's match, Campbell hosts a Big South semifinal Nov. 10 (7:00 p.m.).
 
HOME, SWEET HOME: The Camels stand 25-2-4 in their last 31 matches at the Eakes Complex, including an 8-1-1 mark in the 2021 season. CU finished 2019 with a 10-0-1 ledger at home, including two wins in the Big South Championship, outscored its opponents 34-3 in Buies Creek and did not trail in 11 matches.  Under 7th-year Coach Dustin Fonder, Campbell is 40-17-5 in Buies Creek.
 
YOUNG POINTS = CAMPBELL POINTS:  Campbell stands 13-0-1 all time in matches when red-shirt sophomore Tyler Young has at least one point, including a 9-0-1 mark this season.  In addition to scoring the game-winners at UNCG and vs. ODU, Young has set up winning goals vs. St. Joseph's, Georgia Southern, Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville... Young has twice been named the Big South offensive player of the week in 2021.  Young provided 3 assists in CU's Oct. 6 win over Gardner-Webb, marking the team's first assists trick since Mitchell Cardenas accomplished the feat Oct. 28, 2010 vs. Belmont.
 
RODRIGUEZ FINDING HIS FORM:  Sophomore Edu Rodriguez has played all but 15 minutes in the nets for Campbell this season and owns the lowest goals-against average (0.93) among Big South keepers... His GAA vs. league opponents is 0.37... He has not allowed a goal in his last 424 minutes played - extending to the first half of an Oct. 13 win over Longwood... Rodriguez earned his first career shutout Oct. 2 at Presbyterian and also blanked Winthrop (10/16), USC Upstate (10/23) and High Point (10/30)... He is 9th in the nation in goalkeeper minutes played (1555).
 
MORRIS HEATS UP VS. BIG SOUTH:  Senior winger Jake Morris has produced all 13 of his points this season (4G, 5A) in 8 matches vs. Big South competition.  He provided his first assist of the year in a 3-1 win over Radford Sept. 25 and scored the game-winning goal in a 3-0 victory at Presbyterian Oct. 2.  He had at least one point in 5-straight matches, including a two-assist performance Oct. 20 at Asheville... In league games only, Morris tops all Big South players in shots per game (4.38), points (13) and game-winning goals (3), while in a tie for 2nd in goals (4) and assists (5).  Overall, Morris ranks in the Big South leaders in goals (T11), assists (T4) and points (T6) while leading the league in shots (3.06) and winners (3).  He was named Big South offensive player of the week (10/18) and to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week (10/18).
