BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell linebacker
Keshawn Thompson has been named to the 2021 Academic All-District® III team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field or court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions, NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA, and divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-December.
Thompson, a graduate student working towards his MBA, posted a breakout season in 2021, leading the Camels with 80 tackles, adding 1.0 stop for loss and two interceptions, in addition to another pass breakup and a QB hurry.
The linebacker ranks fifth in the Big South Conference in total tackles, as one of four players in the league with at least 60 tackles and two picks. Thompson, a Hillsborough, N.C. native, helped Campbell rank fourth in the FCS in turnovers gained (25) and defensive touchdowns (4).
In 14 seasons of football for CU, 15 Camels have now combined for 23 CoSIDA Academic All-District selections. Overall, at least one Campbell University student-athlete (all sports) has been recognized on an Academic All-District team every year since 1994-95.
