BUIES CREEK - Head coach Sharonda McDonald-Kelley has announced the 2022 Campbell softball schedule. The reigning Big South Conference champions play 51 games featuring nine Big South series and 24 non-conference games.
"I am excited about the 2022 schedule. It is packed with high-level competition with challenges that really excited our players," said McDonald-Kelley. "We have goals for this program to compete regionally and nationally and this schedule sets us on a path to achieving that goal."
Campbell opens its season Feb. 11-12 at the River City Leadoff in Jacksonville, Fla. featuring games against Florida A&M, North Florida, Western Carolina and Jacksonville.
The Camels welcome UNC Greensboro to Amanda Littlejohn Stadium on Feb. 16 for its home opener before heading to the Charlotte Invitational Feb. 18-20. Matchups in Queen City feature UConn, hosts Charlotte and national powerhouse James Madison.
Campbell returns home to host tournaments on back-to-back weekends starting with the Camel Stampede Feb. 25-27 featuring Howard, Kent State and Marshall. The following weekend, Mar. 4-6, is the Campbell Invitational featuring Akron, Iona and Cleveland State.
A midweek game against Coastal Carolina (Mar. 9) separates the beginning of Big South play as the Camels travel to Charleston Southern (Mar. 11-12) for its first conference series.
Other non-conference matchups include NC State (Mar. 22) and NC Central (Mar. 30) on the road and North Carolina (Apr. 13) and Duke (May 3) at home.
During Big South play Campbell hosts USC Upstate (Mar. 19-20), Presbyterian (Mar. 26-27), Hampton (Apr. 9-10), Longwood (Apr. 23-24) and the final series of the regular season against Gardner-Webb (May 7-8). Road dates for Big South series include N.C. A&T (Apr. 2-3), Radford (Apr. 15-16) and Winthrop (Apr 30 - May 1).
The Big South Tournament is set for May 11-14 in Farmville, Va.
In 2021, McDonald-Kelley led Campbell to a 28-19 (15-3 Big South) record. The Camels won both the Big South regular season and tournament title, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history. At the Stillwater Regional the Camels defeated Boston for its first NCAA Tournament win since 2008.
