HIGH POINT, N.C. - Campbell throwers shined after competing in the first outdoor of the season today at the Perry Palooza Early Bird Classic, hosted by High Point.
The meet marked the first regular season outdoor competition for Campbell in 669 days.
D.J. McClain set a new school-record in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 54.65m (179' 3") earning a second place finish in the event. Andrew Ward, the previous school-record holder, took third with a throw of 53.54m (175' 8") mark.
Joy Gerow led a trio of Camels in the women's hammer throw, as the sophomore took second overall at 45.70m (149' 11"). Jenna Dankert earned third overall with a 45.69m throw while Caitlyn Vester followed in fourth behind her 45.59m (149' 7") mark.
Patience Marshall carried over her dominance from the indoor season, finishing first in the women's shot put with a leading mark of 14.80m (48' 6.75").
Timon Edelen followed on the men's side, placing first in the men's shot put with a mark set at 13.76m (45' 1.75"). Jason Reilly also reached the podium in the shot put, taking third with a 12.47m (40' 7") mark.
To round out the day, Josh Kudrick took second in the javelin with a 59.25m mark (194' 5") while Edelen took third at 57.09m (187' 4"). Jonhoi Clarke took third in the discus with a 46.62m (143' 2") mark.
Campbell's next scheduled meet is the HPU Vertklasse, also hosted by High Point, on March 19 & 20.
