Camels sweep GWU to push win streak to 8

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Camels win streak increased to eight on Wednesday after securing two wins in a doubleheader against Gardner-Webb, 4-2 and 6-4 to sweep the Runnin' Bulldogs.

With the two wins, Campbell improves to a season record of 15-10 and 8-1 in the Big South with Gardner-Webb dropping to 4-21 on the season and 3-11 in conference play.

Game 1 - Campbell 4, Gardner-Webb 2
The Camels got out to a quick start, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a Claudia Ware RBI ground out to second base that scored Destini England from third.

The Runnin' Bulldogs would even the score in the third inning with a one-out RBI single before Ware would take the lead back for the Camels with another RBI in the fourth.

Weslyn Almond would respond for Gardner-Webb with an RBI single of her own in the fifth inning to tie the game, 2-2.

The winning runs would be scored in the sixth inning, however, as England would pick up an RBI single scoring Bri Bryant, and Kayla Fredendall would earn an RBI on her sacrifice ground out to the GWU second baseman scoring England to make it 4-2 for the Camels.

Campbell's starting pitcher Georgeanna Barefoot (7-4), would shutout Gardner-Webb in the last two innings to secure her seventh win on the season. Barefoot would end the game with a complete seven innings of work only allowing two runs off six hits while getting three strikeouts.

GWU's Andrea Lyon (0-6), picked up the loss with seven innings pitched allowing four runs off five hits getting three strikeouts.

Game 2 - Campbell 6, Gardner-Webb 4
Once again the Camels got out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Bri Bryant scored on a walk with the bases full, but the Camels would not get any more runs across in the inning.

Gardner-Webb would take their first lead of the series in the third inning as the Bulldogs would score two runs off a throwing error and a sacrifice fly making it 2-1.

Campbell would go on to score five straight runs, two of which came from a Morgan Rios' home run in the fifth inning to give the Camels a 4-2 lead.

Two more runs in the sixth inning would be all the insurance that would be needed to secure victory as the Bulldogs' rally in the sixth would be cut short at only two runs.

Megan Richards (5-3), got the win in relief throwing four innings giving up two runs on five hits, two walks with no strikeouts.

Brooke Perry (3-11) took her second loss of the series going for six innings giving up four runs off seven hits, with seven walks and nine strikeouts.
