Holcomb joins coaching staff

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell baseball head coach Justin Haire announced the addition of Joey Holcomb to the staff Tuesday. Holcomb will serve as an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator for the Camels.

"The addition of Joey Holcomb to our staff is very exciting," Haire said. "Adding a coach that has a proven track record of development, recruiting, and winning is important to our growth as a program. His attention to detail, elite level work ethic, and loyalty to something bigger than himself will be a fantastic fit for our program."

Holcomb joins the staff after two seasons at NC State that included the Wolfpack's recent trip to the College World Series. He served as the assistant offensive coach and worked with the catchers and outfielders in Raleigh. While there, he worked with eight MLB draft picks and the 2020 Johnny Bench Award winner for the nation's top catcher. He helped guide the Wolfpack offense to sixth in the nation in home runs last season while leading the ACC in team batting average, slugging percentage and home runs.

"Coach Holcomb will be a fantastic addition to Campbell University and the baseball program," NC State head coach Elliot Avent said. "Joey's discipline and work ethic has been an important part of our program over the last two years, and he helped us build a team that came within an eyelash of winning a National Championship."

Prior to his tenure at NC State, he spent seven seasons with the UNC Greensboro staff as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. In Greensboro he helped coach 16 MLB draft picks and eight all-americans. He guided the Spartans to leading the nation in triples in 2017 and '18, and to batting over .320 for three straight seasons from 2016-18.

"Joey has elite attention to detail and his ability to relay accurate technical information to players is great," said Link Jarret, the Notre Dame head coach and former head coach at UNC Greensboro. "He is ultra-organized, leading to on-field efficiency, as well as presenting a systematic approach to national recruiting. Joey is a fabulous mentor of young men, and his wife Brittany and their 3 boys are wonderful. Campbell is very fortunate to have the Holcombs' join their program."

Holcomb hails from Locust Fork, Ala. and is a 2006 graduate of Huntingdon College, where he also coached for four years following his graduation. He lives with his wife Brittany and three sons, Graham, Reed, and Parker.
