Box Score BUIES CREEK - Campbell (0-1-1) earned a 1-1 (2OT) draw against unbeaten NC State (1-0-2), Thursday night at the Eakes Athletics Complex.
"I am very proud with a majority of the performance from our team tonight," head coach Samar Azem said. "We played a very good NC State team very well. I thought they tested us and I thought we tested them right back."
Annika Wohner scored in the 23rd minute for NC State after her free kick at the top of the 18-yard box found the upper right corner.
The Camels responded in the 53rd minute as Elyssa Nowowieski scored her first goal of the season following Hayley Krahenbil's blocked shot.
Jackie Richards provided a great shot on goal in the opening minutes of the first overtime as her shot from outside the box to the upper left corner was saved.
"We used our first match to find where our weaknesses were and our players did a great job of getting more organized and being more deliberate about what our identity is about on and off the ball," Azem continued. "We left a lot of moments on the field though, and we have a lot of work to do yet which is what I really like about our non-conference schedule, we will continue to try and test ourselves.We will keep getting better from here and I am excited about what this team's about."
NC State, who has reached the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament in three of the past five seasons, outshot Campbell 16-12 and held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Campbell returns Sunday when it welcomes Mount St. Mary's to Eakes Athletics Complex for a 3 p.m. matchup on ESPN+.
