NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State defeated Campbell 54-42 Monday night at Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall.
Campbell (3-3) was led by a game-high 18 points from Shy Tuelle while Norfolk State (7-1) picks up its sixth-straight win.
The Spartans jumped out to a 17-5 lead in the first quarter, forcing Campbell to commit eight turnovers and just 1-of-8 shooting from the field. Norfolk State, which led by as 17 int he first half, took a 28-15 lead into halftime.
Campbell trimmed the deficit in the third quarter behind eight points from Tuelle and five from Audrey Fuller while limiting the Spartans to 1-of-11 shooting from the field.
The Camels made it 42-40 with 6:32 left in the fourth quarter as Tuelle knocked down a three and Christabel Ezumah knocked down a pair of free throws. Norfolk State answered by closing out the game on a 12-2 run.
Tuelle scored 13 of her 18 in the second half and led the Camels with nine boards. Fuller finished with seven points while Ezumah added six.
Deja Francis led NSU with 16 points while Kierra Wheeler finished with a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards.
Norfolk State forced 24 turnovers but only converted those into 14 points. The Spartans edged Campbell 22-6 in points in the paint.
Campbell shot 23.3% (10-41) from the field, 22.2% (6-27) from three and converted 76.2% (16-21) of shots from the charity stripe. Norfolk State finished shooting 33.3% (17-51) from the floor and made 19-of-25 free throws while being limited to 1-of-10 shooting from three.
The Camels return home Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off against Coppin State.
