BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Playing in front of more than 2,500 elementary school children, Campbell rolled to a 101-38 win over William Peace Wednesday in the program's annual Education Day game at Gore Arena.
With a near sellout crowd of 3,024 in attendance,
Gianni Boone (19) and
Erika Joseph (18) hit career scoring highs for Campbell (5-4), which led 35-13 after one quarter and 55-21 at halftime.
Svenia Nurenberg contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds, including a layup in transition to put the Camels over the 100-point mark with 11 seconds to play.
Christabel Ezumah added 12 points on 5-of-5 from the floor, while
Brittany Staves chipped in 10 for the Camels, whose 63-point victory margin was tied for seventh-most in the program's history.
Pamela Mock led the Division III Pacers (1-6) with 13 points.
The Camels, who entered the contest ranked fifth in Division I in scoring defense (49.2) and 18th in field goal defense (.338), held William Peace to just 21.9 percent shooting (16-of-73).
Campbell built a double figure lead midway through the opening quarter thanks to a 19-2 run. Campbell made 12 of its first 15 shots, connected on 72 percent of its attempts in the opening period and 52.6 percent (41-78) on the day. The Camels out-rebounded the Pacers by a 65-36 margin and outscored WPU 62-22 in the paint.
The Camels return to action next Tuesday (Dec. 20) against Cleveland State in the Holiday Hoops Classic at Las Vegas, Nev.
