The Camels (8-4, 5-0 Big South) have won five straight outings heading into the weekend, matching a school record (2017). CU has also equaled its best Big South start at 5-0 (2017).
Campbell is coming off a
12-8 home win over Gardner-Webb on Wednesday behind a school record five caused turnovers from
Rebekah Taylor and six points from
Megan Matthews.
Taylor's five caused turnovers tied a program single-game record held by three other Camels (Erin O'Hara: 4/08/14 vs. Davidson and 4/19/15 vs. GWU; Cloey Henchcliffe: 4/13/14 at Longwood; Megan Reilly 2/10/18 at Richmond), adding four ground balls in the win. Matthews, meanwhile, notched three goals and three assists, tacking on two ground balls and a caused turnover for the Camels.
Campbell's opponent posted 20 turnovers for the fourth straight game, while doubling up GWU on the draw, 16-8. CU also earned 30 ground balls to the Runnin Bulldogs' 19, outshooting Gardner-Webb 35-22.
For the season,
Sam Bischoff owns a team-high 49 points on 39 goals and 10 assists, adding 15 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. Matthews, meanwhile, has tallied 23 assists with 22 goals, while
Julianna Sanchez has posted 28 points, including 19 goals, with 66 draw controls.
Ally Heath has also registered 39 points on 32 goals and seven assists.
Defensively, Taylor has caused a Big South-leading 22 turnovers with 31 ground balls, while
Chandler Stewart has picked up 18 ground balls with 13 caused turnovers. In goal,
Emma Strickland has collected 90 saves.
The Terriers are 3-9 on the season and 1-4 in Big South play, coming off a 20-5 setback at Mercer. Olivia Abe owns a team-high 26 points on 11 goals and 15 assists, while Elisabeth Ralph has registered 23 goals and two assists. Kirsten Flannigan has also posted 26 ground balls with 12 caused turnovers.
Saturday will be just the second all-time meeting between the Camels and Terriers, with CU taking a 21-6 win in Buies Creek
in 2019. The win also marked the 100
th career coaching victory for CU head coach
Dawn Easley.
Campbell will return home next week, hosting Presbyterian on Wednesday, April 20, before welcoming Furman on April 23 in its home finale. The Camels will round out the regular season on April 27 at Mercer.
