CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Four Camels have earned All-Big South honors after the conclusion of the regular season, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Starting pitchers Georgeanna Barefoot and Isabella Smith were named to the Big South second team while outfielders Alexa Pagano and Tyra Parker were named honorable mention. Smith was also named to the freshman team and Barefoot to the all-academic team.
Campbell, who earned a share of the conference regular season crown for consecutive seasons, has compiled a 34-16 overall record including a 21-6 mark in Big South games.
Georgeanna Barefoot | Pitcher | Second Team/All-Academic Team
Barefoot, who earned first team honors last season, owns a 15-5 record on the season with a 1.97 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. In 149.0 innings, Barefoot has totaled 138 strikeouts, eight solo shutouts and 17 complete games. The Raleigh, N.C. native has also held opposing hitters to a .210 average.
In the final game of the regular season Barefoot threw her first career no-hitter, helping the Camels earn a share of the conference regular season title. She has additionally earned five Big South pitcher of the week honors, marking a program record for most weekly awards won by a single pitcher in a season. A management major, Barefoot was also named to the all-academic team.
Isabella Smith | Pitcher | Second Team/All-Freshman Team
Smith leads the Camels with a 1.83 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 147 strikeouts in her first collegiate season. In 133.2 innings, Smith has posted a record of 14-7 with 14 complete games and five shutouts. She's also held opposing batters to hit just .186 against her.
In her second career start Smith threw a no-hitter against Jacksonville. She's tossed one-haters against Kent State, Hampton and Presbyterian. A redshirt-freshman, Smith has struck out eight or more batters in a game six times while posting a career-high 12 strikeouts in a single game three times this season. In addition to being named to the second team, Smith was also selected to the all-freshman team.
Overall, the Camel pitching staff ranks as one of the best in the country ranking 17th nationally with a 2.04 team ERA, 18th with 14 total shutouts and 22nd with a 3.64 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Alexa Pagano | Outfielder | Honorable Mention
Playing in her first full season as an outfielder after splitting time in the infield throughout her career, Pagano picks up Big South honorable mention honors. Owning the fourth-best batting average on the team, the Toms River, N.J. product has scored 13 runs and 29 hits including a career-high three home runs. She's also collected 13 RBI and 40 total bases while leading the team drawing 17 walks. Pagano also owns a perfect fielding percentage making 31 putouts, three assists and one double play this season.
Tyra Parker | Outfielder | Honorable Mention
As a true freshman, Parker leads the Camels with a .336 batting average, .779 OPS and three triples. Additionally, she is tied for the team lead with 36 hits on the year. Already regarded as one of the fastest players in the Big South, Parker has totaled 18 stolen bases this year. Notably, the Humble, Texas native hit a walk-off stand-up triple against Iona on March 5th.
Campbell is the No. 2 seed for the 2022 Big South Championship in Farmville, Va. The Camels begin play in the six-team tournament on Thursday, May 12 against the winner of No. 3 Longwood and No. 6 Radford.
