Campbell returns to Big South play at High Point

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell is set for its second straight Big South road weekend with a three-game series at High Point. The Fighting Camels have an opportunity to clinch the Big South regular season championship this weekend with a sweep, or with a little help around the league.

Friday's game time was changed to 4 p.m. (from the originally scheduled 6 p.m. due to rain in the forecast).

Game Times/Probable Starters

Clinching Scenarios
Campbell has a three-game cushion over second-place USC Upstate with six conference games remaining. With a sweep of HPU, Campbell would clinch at least a share of the Big South crown on Sunday, as well as own the tiebreaker over second-place Upstate having swept the Spartans earlier in the season.

If Upstate drops a game on Friday or Saturday at UNC Asheville, Campbell could clinch the league as early as Saturday.

Series History
The Camels and Panthers have met 51 times, with Campbell holding a 35-16 advantage in the series. Campbell went 4-1 in five meetings last season, with each team winning their home midweek game, before Campbell swept HPU in the final series of the regular season. Campbell is

Last Time Out
Campbell swept the midweek and season series with Ohio State, winning on Tuesday and Wednesday in Columbus. The Campbell pitching staff held the Buckeyes to two total runs during the week, earning 11-1 and 10-1 wins.

Campbell blasted six home runs on Tuesday and two more on Wednesday. Ty Babin led the charge on Tuesday with his first career three home run game.

The wins rounded out the three-game season series, having also faced OSU on Mar. 4 in Fayetteville, N.C.

About High Point
The Panthers enter the weekend at 19-29, 10-8 in league play. HPU is currently in fourth in the Big South and fighting for a spot in the Big South tournament. The Panthers are coming off a 9-0 loss at Wake Forest on Tuesday, but did sweep last weekend at home against NC A&T.

High Point's team ERA of 6.31 is good for third in the Big South. That staff is led by Saturday starter Sam Garcia, who is 4-3 with a 1.73 ERA in 52.1 innings this season. The pitchers are back by a defense that owns the best fielding percentage in the Big South at .969.

The offense lands in 10th in team batting this season in the league, owning a .244 batting average and slugging a league-low .350.

The Panthers best win this season was a walk-off grand slam over Wake Forest on Apr. 26 for an 11-9 wn.

Road Warriors
Campbell is 15-4 in 19 road games this season, the fourth-best road record in the nation this season. The Camels are 9-0 in Big South road games with sweeps at Gardner-Webb, NC A&T and Winthrop.

Sunday at HPU will mark Campbell's eighth straight road game in a nine-game road trip. The trip concludes Tuesday at ECU.

Going, Going, Gone
Campbell is 4th in the nation in HR/game at 1.96, and tied for 7th total with 90 home runs this season. Ninety home runs is good for second-most in a single season in program history, surpassing the 1986 team that hit 88. The team still trails the 1985 squad that hit 106.
