Mensah named to national players to watch list

United Soccer Coaches recognize 3-time All-South back

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Moses Mensah of Campbell University has been named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I defenders to watch list for the 2022 season.

The list is comprised of 24 men, including Mensah, who is a three-time All-South region and All-Big South Conference performer at left back.

A native of Cape Coast, Ghana, Mensah has started all 53 games he has played the last three seasons and helped the Camels win four Big South trophies and make a pair of NCAA College Cup appearances. He was also ranked as No. 2 prospect in the USL League 2 while playing for One Knoxville in Summer of 2022.

Last season, Mensah helped Campbell post a 15-4-2 overall record, 7-0-1 in the league, and win its second Big South double in the last three years.  He helped CU rank fourth nationally in goal differential (+34) and post the lowest goals-against average (0.98) in the Big South.

The lists are being released for the first time this season by the Division I All-America Committees to promote college soccer leading up to the official start date for the regular season later this month. The lists include United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and first or second team All-Region players from 2021, who are scheduled to return for the 2022 season.

Goalkeepers to watch were announced last week, while midfielders (Aug. 12) and forwards (Aug. 16) will be announced in the coming days.

The positional announcements also lead up to the 2022 watch lists for the prestigious Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy on the official start date for regular season games on August 18 (women) and August 25 (men). The MAC Hermann Trophy is presented annually to the Division I National Players of the Year as voted by Division I College Coaches at the end of the regular season. The 2022 recipients will be announced on January 6, 2023, in St. Louis.

The Fighting Camels open the season with three-straight road matches. Campbell will travel to Houston, Texas to face Incarnate Word (Aug. 25) and Houston Baptist (Aug. 27) in the HBU Invitational.  The Camels then head to Davidson (Sept. 1) before hosting Coastal Carolina on Labor Day (Sept. 5) in the home opener.
