RADFORD, Va. - Carmen Williams hit a go-ahead jumper with 5.5 remaining and Radford defeated Campbell 54-53 Wednesday at the Dedmon Center.
Campbell (10-8, 5-2), which led for 29:56 and by as many as 11, falls for just the second time in conference play. Radford (8-10, 4-3) improves and picks up its fourth Big South win.
Gianni Boone led all scorers with 16 points and added nine rebounds for Campbell. Christabel Ezumah added 12 points, seven boards and three blocks while Svenia Nurenberg provided seven points and nine boards for the Camels.
Radford, who entered the fourth quarter shooting 29.7 percent (11-37), opened the final period on a 7-0 run to take its first lead since 5:25 in the first quarter. The Camels answered with a 7-0 run of their own and took a 53-50 lead on Ezumah's lay-up with 1:14 remaining.
The Highlanders scored on their next possession as Campbell missed its next shot from the floor and a pair of free throws with 24 seconds left. Radford regained the lead on Williams' jumper and forced a Campbell turnover on the final possession of the game.Â
CU made 36.2 percent (21-58) from the field and outscored the Highlanders 30-22 in the paint. Radford shot 38.8 percent (19-49) from the floor, 38.5 percent (5-13) from three and converted 11-of-13 free throws.
Ashlyn Traylor led Radford with 14 points while Vanessa Blake added 13 and Rachel LaLonde added 10 points and nine boards.
Campbell returns home on Saturday as it hosts Charleston Southern at 2:00 p.m.
