The Camels (5-9, 0-2) have dropped their first two league games at Presbyterian (72-82) and against preseason favorite Longwood (42-67).
Gardner-Webb (7-7, 2-0) is riding a 5-game win streak after opening Big South competition with victories over Charleston Southern (83-63) and at High Point (80-73).
NOTES:
- Campbell stands 3-3 at home this year, while Gardner-Webb is 2-6 in true road games.
- Gardner-Webb leads the all-time series against the Camels by a 24-17 margin. GWU won the only regular season game between the teams last year, then edged CU 54-53 in the Big South quarterfinal round at Charlotte.
- Fifth-year senior Ricky Clemons leads the Camels - and ranks 12th in the Big South Conference - with a 12.5 scoring average. Anthony Dell'Orso (11.0) is the league's 2nd-leading freshman scorer.
- Gardner-Webb leads the league in rebounding margin (+6.5) and is first in scoring defense (63.64) and field goal percentage defense (.378).
- GWU junior guard Anthony Selden ranks 14th among Big South scoring leaders (12.14), while senior forward Kareem Reid is 17th (11.62).
- Under head coach Tim Craft, the Runnin' Bulldogs have not endured a losing season in Big South Conference play in his 10 seasons. Craft's teams own a 94-66 record vs. the Big South, reaching at least 10 wins in eight of his first nine seasons.
- Over the last decade, Gardner-Webb has six wins over Power 5 Conference schools - Clemson, Purdue, Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and most recently. Georgia (Dec. 29, 2021).
- Campbell and Gardner-Webb have played each other on three different levels. The teams squared off twice as junior college members in the '50s, then played 3 times as NAIA members in the late '60s-early '70s. The teams also met as rivals in the Atlantic Sun Conference before GWU joined the Big South in 2008-09. Campbell, which was a Big South charter member from 1984-94, returned to the league in 2011-12.
- Seven Gardner-Webb standouts have gone on to play in the NBA, including Hall of Famer Artis Gilmore and All-Star John Drew.
- Following Wednesday's game, the Camels hit the road for games Saturday at UNC Asheville (2:00 p.m.) and Jan. 11 at USC Upstate.
