Wakefield added to men's basketball staff

BUIES CREEK - Justin Wakefield has joined the Campbell Basketball staff as Director of Player Development and Analytics, following head coach Jimmie Williams from Anderson.

"We are so excited to welcome Coach Justin Wakefield to the Campbell family," head coach Jimmie Williams said. "Coach "Wake" was over our Player Development this past season at Anderson. He has a unique ability to get players better. He works really hard and is always prepared and organized for each workout. He has had his hand in a significant growth in youth basketball around the upstate of South Carolina. I know there are a lot of people down there that are happy for him that he is coming with us but sad he is leaving. He has impacted so many people in the game of basketball in a short window. One of my favorite things about Wake is that he is curious and is a lifelong learner. He studies the game and is always wanting to grow. That's what makes him great at his job, and it's what excites me about him joining us here at Campbell. Coach Wake will be over player development and analytics, and will be involved in recruiting and video. He will be a huge addition to our staff, and will be liked by everyone on campus and in the community. I'm very thankful he is joining us, and can't wait for everyone to get to know him."

Wakefield has been in coaching for more than a decade, ranging from a head coach at the high school level, a collegiate assistant, and a player development specialist.

Wakefield was part of the recent success at Anderson, helping the Trojans to a school-record 29-3 record, a conference championship, and a one-seed in the NCAA tournament.

In addition to Anderson, he recently worked as lead director of player development at the DL6 Sportsplex, in Piedmont, SC. He organized group sessions, camps, and clinics, led summer day camps, and created engaging basketball breakdowns through Instagram videos.

His college experience featured working as a player development coach at North Alabama from 2022-23, helping that team to an 18-15, 10-8 record.

Wakefield has organized offseason workouts for college and professional players since 2013, and recently helped with pre-draft workouts alongside NBA Trainer Rob Allen beginning in 2022. His workout programs have helped athletes secure scholarships to SMU, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee.

Wakefield is a two-time high school state champion coach, one in Tennessee at just 24 years old with Maryville Christian, and another with Dorman High School in South Carolina.

The Knoxville, Tenn. native began his coaching journey as a student assistant at Tennessee Tech from 2011-14.
