LANCASTER, PA. –
Gabriel Hixenbaugh finished runner-up, highlighting Campbell wrestlers at the 2023 David H. Lehman Franklin and Marshall Open on Friday.
Hixenbaugh went 4-1 on the day, starting with a fall over Sacred Heart's Jake Ice (6:08). The redshirt junior followed with decisions over Army's Danny Uhorchuck, 6-4, and Ryan Franco, 6-1, as well as a 9-6 win over Penn's Evan Mougalian. His lone defeat came against Navy's Brendan Ferretti, 4-3, in the title round, Hixenbaugh's first loss of the season.
The Alabaster, Ala. native is now 8-1 in tournament action this season after
winning the Army Black Knight Invitational in November.
Heavyweight
Chad Nix also fashioned a 3-2 performance that included a tech fall and a major decision, while
Conor Maslanek registered a pair of pins at 197 pounds for the Camels.
Seven of the eight Camels in the field won at least one bout.
Campbell returns home to the Pope Center / Gore Arena tomorrow, Saturday, January 7, hosting No. 17 Nebraska in a nonconference bout, as well as Gardner-Webb for its 2022-23 Southern Conference opener.
The Camels and Runnin' Bulldogs will kick off the action at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday following Campbell's 1:00 p.m. women's basketball game against UNC Asheville. Nebraska and GWU will then face off, followed by Campbell against the Cornhuskers to close the day (estimated start time 7:00 p.m.).
One ticket is good for all the action in Gore Arena, including the women's basketball game and all three wrestling matches.
CU will be hosting High School Appreciation Day on Saturday, with all high school age attendees receiving free admission. The day's first 100 fans will also receive a free Cliff Keen Campbell Wrestling backpack.
