CHARLESTON, S.C. –
Erik Johansson is tied for fourth individually, and Campbell is 14th on the team leader board after Sunday's opening round of the Daniel Island Intercollegiate at the Daniel Island Club Ralston Creek Course.
The 54-hole event continues through Tuesday's on the par-72 Rees Jones design. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
A freshman from Hollviken, Sweden, Johansson logged his seventh round of par, or better, golf this fall. Only a bogey six on the par-five 11th hole marred a scorecard that included four birdies and 13 pars.
Middle Tennessee State leads the 18-team field at 5-under par 283, followed by Coastal Carolina (284), VCU (285) and South Carolina (285). Campbell finished the day at 8-over 296, but is just six strokes out of seventh place with 36 holes remaining.
Fellow Camel freshman
Joachim Larsen Tegner is tied for 13th place after shooting one-under 71 for his seventh round of par, or better, golf in four collegiate events.
Douglas Nordlof carded a two-over 74, while
Petter Dale and
Tim Holmberg shot 82 and 83, respectively.
Kevin Jegers of MTSU and Melan Dhaubhadel of Louisiana-Monroe share the first round individual lead at 6-under 66.
Ten different NCAA Division I conferences are represented in the 18-team field, including three CAA members (Campbell, College of Charleston and UNCW). In addition to host Charleston Southern and fellow Big South member USC Upstate, the SEC (South Carolina), Big Ten (Maryland), Big East (Seton Hall) are also represented.
