BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Redshirt senior Domenic Zaccone was named the SoCon Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon. Zaccone went 5-2 during the week and placed fourth at the Cliff Keen Invitational.

Zaccone's week was highlighted by a top-10 victory at the invitational. He earned a 4-2 decision over No. 10 ranked Julian Chlebove of Arizona State on his way to the podium. It was the highest-ranked victory for the Camels on the week.

In addition, Zaccone earned a win over a conference opponent, Ethan Oakley of App State (ranked #31). He recorded the 9-6 decision in the second round of Cliff Keen. Zaccone rounded out his week with three major decisions: 13-4 against Andrew Fallon (Sacred Heart), 12-3 against Julian Farber (Northern Iowa), and 16-6 against Tyler Knox (Stanford).

Now ranked the No. 14 wrestler at 133 pounds by Intermat, Zaccone sits at 7-2 to this point in the season and 2-0 in dual matches.

This is the second instance a Campbell wrestler has been named SoCon Wrestler of the Week this season, as Zaccone joins teammate Taye Ghadiali who received the recognition on November 22. Ghadiali was also named the conference wrestler of the month for November.

On how practice and preparation lead to results:

"First, I'm just grateful to be able to step on the mat and compete. Going into practice and preparation, it's not about thinking about the results, but more so what I can control in the practice and how I can better myself. If the coach says I have 20 seconds left to get a takedown I am going to get a takedown, and that transitions into the actual matches. I'm keeping a focused mind on consistently getting better. It's not so much about other people recognizing me when I'm competing, but me recognizing what I am doing right and wrong and how I can make myself better after winning or losing. It's still a long road to the NCAA Tournament, so all I can focus on is getting better each day!"

Head Coach Scotti Sentes

"Dom Zaccone is as focused as he has ever been. He is a student of the sport, and the success he has been having is due to him being receptive to coaching and criticism – he has always worked really really hard, but this year he has been more of a sponge than ever, taking in all the knowledge and critiques he can and adding it to his technical game. His results at Las Vegas were a product of that and I expect him to just continue improving every week as the season goes on."
