Campbell comeback comes up short at Presbyterian

Presbyterian holds on for 60-56 lead

CLINTON, S.C. - Christabel Ezumah's career-high 21 points wasn't enough as Campbell fell to Presbyterian 60-56 Saturday afternoon at the Templeton Center.

Mara Neira led Presbyterian (12-15, 8-8) with 17 points and four assists while Bryanna Brady and Tilda Sjokvist added 10 each.

Ezumah made 10-of-15 shots and added nine boards for Campbell (14-13, 9-7). Svenia Nurenberg added 12 points while Audrey Fuller and Brittany Staves contributed seven apiece.

Presbyterian jumped out to an early lead behind an 11-2 run to end the first quarter and led 39-27 at the half. The Blue Hose extended their lead to as many as 19 with 1:15 left in the third quarter.

Campbell used a 13-3 run to start the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to single digits. Nurenberg, who scored 10 points in the final period, made it a four-point game after her three-pointer with 2:06 left.

A steal and score by Fuller with less than a minute remaining cut the Blue Hose lead to 58-56. Campbell had a chance to tie or take the lead but turned it over on an inbounds pass with 5.5 seconds left.

The Blue Hose shot 50.0 percent (22-of-44) from the field, made 55.6 percent (10-of-18) threes and converted 6-of-7 free throws. Campbell finished shooting 43.6 percent (24-of-55) and made 6-of-21 shots from range.

Campbell returns to action Wednesday in a 7 p.m. tip against Winthrop.
