Camels finish 11th at Schenkel Invitational

Lilja T12th for his 6th top-20 of the season

STATESBORO, GA. – Henrik Lilja finished 12th individually and Campbell placed 11th on the team leader board after Sunday's final round of the 43rd Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club.
 
Host and 19th-ranked Georgia Southern won team honors at 27-under par, paced by individual medalist Ben Carr (-8).
 
In a field that included five teams representing Power 5 conferences and including five programs ranked among the nation's top-50, Campbell finished at 295-290-299—884, five shots clear of West Virginia in the 14-team event.
 
A graduate student from Gothenburg, Sweden, Lilja finished at one-under-par 215 (72-70-73) to earn his sixth top-20 individual finish in eight outings this season.  Freshman Tim Holmberg finished T30th (74-70-76—220), while senior Alejandro Cogollo was T38th (74-74-73—221).  Senior Edwin Blomander placed 67th (75-76-77—228) and freshman Amadeus Susanto T81st (80-80-77—237).
 
Lilja finished tied for eighth in the field in par-4 scoring (+1) and tied for 12th with eight birdies. Cogollo made 38 pars, tied for third in the 83-golfer field.
 
Named for the late Hall of Fame announcer and Georgia Southern alum Chris Schenkel, the event has played host to future professionals who have gone on to win 16 major championships, most recently Justin Thomas of Alabama, the 2013 medalist, who went on to win the 2017 and 2022 PGA Championships.  Among the other golfing luminaries to play in the event are two-time Master champion Bubba Watson (Georgia) and two-time U.S. Open champions Andy North (Florida) and Curtis Strange (Wake Forest).

The Course: Forest Heights CC (Par 72, 7123 Yards)
Recognized as one of the finest courses in the Southeast, Forest Heights Country Club is host to the Schenkel Invitational, which draws top teams from around the country. Forest Heights is also the site of the annual Southeastern Amateur Golf tournament and has hosted the Southern Conference tournament and the Georgia State Golf Association Four-Ball tournament.  Opened in 1947, the greens were rebuilt to USGA specifications under the direction of Bob Cupp in 1993.
