BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After Campbell produced its best 18- (277), 36- (563) and 54-hole (852) scores of the season, Fighting Camels sweep the weekly Big South Conference men's golf honors.
Edwin Blomander was named golfer of the week, while
Tim Holmberg earned freshman recognition for the second-straight week.
At the Seahawk Intercollegiate, the Camels finished sixth in the 17-team field, in front of three power-5 conference members (No. 44 Clemson, Nebraska and Maryland) on the par-72 Pete Dye designed CC of Landfall Dye course.
A senior from Eksjo, Sweden, Blomander posted his best finish (T3) in three seasons at Campbell at 9-under 207 (70-69-68). He carded his three best scores to par this year and earned his third career top-10 in 18 events at Campbell. He tied for the tournament lead in par-3 (-2) and par-5 (-9) scoring, while ranking in a ninth-place tie with 15 birdies. He lowered his season stroke average to 72.5 in four events after missing five tournaments due to injury from Sept. through Feb.
Holmberg posted his best 54-hole score on the college level at one-under 215 (71-71-73) and tied for 28th place at the Seahawk Intercollegiate. The native of Uppsala, Sweden finished 2-under on the par-4 holes, tied for sixth in the 92-golfer field. He lowered his stroke average to 74.6 and has finished among the top 30 individuals in 3-straight events.
The Camels return to action Apr. 7-8 in the Stitch Intercollegiate, hosted by NC State at Lonnie Poole GC in Raleigh.
