Box Score NEW ORLEANS, LA. – No. 24 Campbell took an early lead and never looked back to down Tulane 17-7 Tuesday night at Turchin Stadium. The Fighting Camels tallied 10+ hits for the sixth straight game, this time coming against a combined ten Tulane pitchers.
Campbell improves to 9-2 with the win, while Tulane falls to 2-11.
The Camels scored three runs in the second, with the big hit being an RBI double from
Trenton Harris. Campbell blew the game open with a five-run fourth coming on four hits and a pair of walks.
Drew Winters got the rally going with a two-run double and set up RBI singles for
Logan Jordan and
Max Weller later in the frame.
Jarrod Belbin, who homered 19 times a season ago, connected for his first of the year with a solo shot in the fifth.
The Camels added five more in the ninth, including an two-run triple from
Dalen Thompson.
All that was more than enough run support for
Hunter Loyd, who turned in a gem in his second start of the season. The ETSU transfer posted a final line of 6.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K. Loyd did find himself in a jam with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth but collected two more strikeouts to keep the Green Wave off the board.
Tulane got on the board in the seventh with a pair of runs off
Trent Adams. They'd add five more in the ninth against the Campbell bullpen.
Wiley Hartley, a two-sport athlete for the Camels as a quarterback for the football team, made his diamond debut in the ninth on the mound. Hartley underwent Tommy John surgery prior to the 2022 season.
Nine different Camels hit safely on the night, with
Max Weller accounting for the only multi-hit game. In addition to the hits, Campbell was issued 18 free passes via 12 walks and six hit batters.
The Camels and Green Wave will meet again tomorrow at 1 pm ET / 12 CT. The Wednesday matinee will be broadcast on ESPN+.
