Taylor named Big South Defensive Player of the Week

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Leading Campbell defense that is off to a historic start to Big South play, Rebekah Taylor has been named the Big South's Defensive Player of the Week.

The senior posted five caused turnovers with four ground balls to help the Camels top Presbyterian 16-4 and Wofford 22-3 last week.

Taylor was credited with three caused turnovers and two ground balls in Campbell's win at PC, limiting the Blue Hose to only 18 shots and 10 on goal. At home against Wofford, the Forest Hill, Md. native recorded two caused turnovers and two ground balls, helping Campbell tie a school record for fewest goals allowed in a single game (fourth time, last: April 6, 2022 at Radford, W 18-3). The Camels out-shot Wofford 37-8 for the day, notching two shutout quarters for the third time this season.

Led by Taylor, the Camels have surrendered only 19 goals through four Big South games, the fewest number of goals allowed over any four game stretch in program history.

So far this season, Camels have earned Big South weekly honors eight times. This is the second time this season that Taylor, the 2022 Big South Defensive Player of the Year, has picked up a player of the week nod from the league.

The Camels, off to a 4-0 start in Big South play, and 8-4 overall, travel to Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, April 12 (3:00 p.m.). CU returns home on April 15, hosting Longwood.
