Former football standout Slade to compete in SlamBall

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Former Campbell standout Darion Slade will suit up for the Wrath in the relaunch of SlamBall.

Slade, a three-time All-Big South Conference performer at Campbell, played in 44 career games for the Camels, making 221 tackles, third all-time in CU history. The Winston-Salem native added four career interceptions with 9.5 tackles for loss, 17 pass breakups, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles across six seasons (2016-21).

In 2021, the safety ranked 10th in the Big South in tackles per game (6.8), collecting 61 stops for the season, including 5.0 for loss with two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, a pass breakup and a defensive touchdown.

He was the only player in the Big South with at least 60 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries, despite playing in only nine games.

Following his collegiate career, Slade signed with the USFL's New Orleans Breakers, and was drafted by the Gryphons in the fifth round of the SlamBall draft before moving to the Wrath.

First launched in 2002, Series 6 of SlamBall begins on July 21 and ends August 17-19 with playoffs and a championship. All of its games take place at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas.

The league is comprised of eight teams, with its seven-man rosters formed through a player draft in early June. The league recently announced an exclusive television contract with ESPN for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN+ together will air more than 30 hours of programming for the sport across five weekends.
