Molton named SoCon Wrestler of the Week

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Redshirt senior Anthony Molton has been named the SoCon Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon. Molton took first place at the Franklin & Marshall Open last Friday, going 5-0 at the event.

Molton began his day with a 6:15 tech fall over Jack Parker (unattached). He followed that up with his second and third falls of the season. He defeated Navy's Grant Treaster in 4:14, followed by Carson Wagner (Binghamton) in 4:01 in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Molton defeated Vince Robinson of NC State by a 5-4 decision. He then beat Robinson's teammate Troy Hohman in the finals by a 4-1 tally. In each match, Molton scored a takedown in the final 30 seconds of the third period to reach the winning score.

Molton now sits at 8-4 on the year, including a 6-2 record in tournaments. He joins Justin Rivera (12/20), Domenic Zaccone (12/6) and Taye Ghadiali (11/22) as winners of the conference wrestler of the week award to this point in the season.

On where he feels his wrestling is at right now and what's next:

"I'd say I'm about 2-3 times better than where I was at coming back from the injury in all different aspects. I feel like my wrestling is really good right now. Like I've said before, I'm seeing a lot of improvements, and I'm making big gains. Next up is to keep winning matches one by one, and then take that into conference play and then nationals."

Head Coach Scotti Sentes

"I think [Molton] is really focused. At the Fighting Camel Duals, he got to see some really tough opponents. He wrestled Matt Ramos, the No. 2 guy in the country. I think at that point, he realized he's back. He's got some experience under his belt. At Franklin & Marshall, we saw a calm, cool, and collected Anthony Molton. We expect him to continue to get better, continue attacking, and distance himself."
